Attached to the 91st Airlanding Division, the 6th Parachute Regiment (German: 6.Fallschirmjäger-Regiment) reinforced the Western part of the Contentin Peninsula.

Landing zones for the U.S. Airborne landings changed in May 1944 when intelligence reports confirmed the presence of the regiment. It was the only part of the plan for Operation Overlord that changed.
